What You’re Noticing

you see the cracks in my facade
the airs I’m putting on
I didn’t think anyone was watching
but there you were
noticing my mascara smudging coal
my sparkling salty accessories
they match my rhinestone bag
carrying the pills I’m chasing
with the bubbly apathy
and we can carry on
carry on these conversations
about politics and things that
someone said mattered once
we can keep our pieces of life in boxes on their mantle
and you are noticing me, crumbling on this velvet slab
sacrifice to good taste and socialites
they’re talking fashion and I’m casing their medicine cabinet
you’re looking me up and down as I down that morphine dessert
cheesecake and opiates
stick the needle to the bone
catch my vein and cause a scene
let them see what they’ve been missing
what they overlooked before
before they saw what you were seeing
