Dia de los Muertos

two dead girls
in the night
Dia de los Muertos
songs of the rising corpse,
faces painted white,
black immortal eyes,
lines of the skull,
blooming on the graves
of Santeria princesses,
holy hordes
holding high heavenly
candle flames,
they’re carrying the coffins,
cemetery party,
wilting lilies
scarlet sun-dried lips
pursed in prayer,
the hoodoo hostesses
greet new guests
with decayed curtseys,
to the house of death,
to your eternal paradise,
flickering rosaries
the stone markers,
for the magic,
with tongues,
we all return
to the elegant gatekeepers
of the afterlife,
time is short,
their ebony eyes always pinned on
